Our wellness specialist Ian recently visited Palazzo Fiuggi; one of Italy’s newest and most impressive medical spas that’s been taking the wellness world by storm. With a diverse range of programmes, cutting-edge medicine, and traditional treatments, it’s a great option for anyone seeking a holistic transformation.
Read on to learn more about Ian’s experience and the wellness options available at Palazzo Fiuggi.
Introducing Palazzo Fiuggi
Perched on an ancient hilltop in a private 20-acre park, just 50 minutes’ drive from Rome, Palazzo Fiuggi is an innovative retreat set in a historic property, nestled in one of Italy’s richest naturalistic towns. Known for the healing powers of its water since the early fourteenth century, the region was often visited by royalty, popes and masters of the Renaissance, including Michelangelo, for its restorative qualities. This history of healing, paired with a state-of-the-art medical facility and incredible hiking trails offers the perfect backdrop for a daily routine of exercise and fresh air.
Wellness at Palazzo Fiuggi
During their stay, guests have access to Palazzo Fiuggi’s 4,300 square-foot fitness centre, complete with Technogym, Pilates, Yoga equipment and Relaxing Training equipment. They can also enjoy the property’s panoramic indoor and outdoor pools, accompanied by views of Fiuggi’s picturesque old town. A highlight of the experience is Palazzo Fiuggi’s world-class spa, which features a fountain connected directly to the ‘miraculous’ Fiuggi water, used in innovative treatments including hydrotherapy and Thalasso pools. Additional medical services and the Roman Thermae can be experienced during the week for an additional rate.
We enjoyed the gym, which was barely occupied on most days, and took to the hills for hiking with stunning views all around. The spa facilities such as the sauna, steam room and Kneipp Therapy (going from a hot plunge pool to a cold plunge pool to help circulation) were enjoyed daily and provided a great place to unwind and relax. The cold plunge dip after a sauna was a surprise awakening and one that you feel benefits every part of your bones.
Luxury Wellness Retreats at Palazzo Fiuggi
Alongside a team of professionals and doctors, Fiuggi-born Professor David Della Morte Canosci has created several programmes for every type of guest – think weight-loss, detoxes, immunity-boosting treatments and even Ayurveda. Once you’ve chosen the right one for you, a detailed questionnaire helps personalise your programme, and highlights any ailments to be treated, from aching muscles to diabetes and osteoporosis. Here, it’s all about fusing together science and holistic practices, whether you’re treating a condition, recovering post-surgery, or simply need to switch off from the outside world.
Rooms and Suites at Palazzo Fiuggi
Palazzo’s Fiuggi’s elegant and charming rooms ooze character. We were fortunate to be upgraded to a junior suite with 180 degree views of the colourful old town, waking each morning to warm sunshine on the balcony and sparkling water from the mini bar to help detoxify and revive the body.
Dining at Palazzo Fiuggi
Based on the philosophy that food is medicine, 3 Michelin star chef Heinz Beck has devised a scientific menu that ensures you are well fed (even as a 6 ft 5 man), full of sustainable, organic nutrients personalised to each individual. Continuing the theme of water as instrumental for healing, all your meals are washed down with cleansing Fiuggi water.
Exceptional service from the team completes the experience; you are constantly made to feel welcome and in the 19th century building with a modern twist, you really feel at home.
