Capella Ubud

Capella Ubud, Bali

In the heart of Bali’s lush green forest, Capella Ubud’s tented camp is a picturesque escape for those looking to return to nature and engage with Indonesian culture and history. The luxury jungle oasis is deep rooted in wellness, hosting an array of irresistible and organic spa experiences based on Balinese tradition and inspiring holistic programmes.

Stays are individually curated by Capella Culturists, who host a variety of immersive experiences that delve into the Balinese way of life through visits to local villages, ancient sites and temples.

Created as a place for connection, camp life at Capella Ubud evolves around the charming Officers Tent. Accompanied by live Balinese music, this cosy living space acts as a welcoming base where Culturists and guests meet daily before setting out for the day’s activities and workshops. By night, parlour games and Mad’s Spirit Box for cocktails come out to play, as guests unwind among the charming antiques and eccentricities.

Hidden among the trees Capella Ubud is comprised of 21 one-bedroom tents and a two-bedroom lodge, all with private pools. Undetectable to the eye from afar, designer Bill Bensley wanted guests to truly experience the untouched jungle surroundings and so built the camp in between trees to impact the environment as little as possible, without ever compromising on comfort and luxury. Tents are constructed from dark wood with outdoor decking and stone lined pools blending the boundaries between indoors and outside. Guests are transported to feel as if they are part of an (ultra-luxurious) 19th century expedition.

Order in-tent breakfast to enjoy poolside as you ready yourself for a day in the jungle. Meet your Culturist in the Officer’s Tent for a Keliki woodcarving lesson as you listen to live music played by local musicians. Climb on board the Capella jeep to head to a nearby Keliki village and help the locals prepare for a temple festival whilst learning about village life. On your return to the camp your Culturist has organised a New Moon spa ritual for renewal and introspection, a treatment combining foot massage, body polish and massage. Enjoy dinner at Api Jiwa, an intimate setting serving Asian barbeque from a Robatayaki grill. Unwind with a silent movie under the stars at the Camp Fire, while toasting marshmallows on an open fire to the sounds of the jungle.

Spread over three spa tents, cocooned in the jungle, guests can relax to the sounds of the rainforest at Auriga Spa, combining simplicity and pure indulgence with a holistic approach. Featuring a bespoke and specially curated spa menu incorporating historic Balinese and Hindu wellness approaches, Auriga Spa is a haven to reset and unwind.

Nestled in the jungle of Ubud’s Keliki Valley, surrounded by Bali’s iconic rice terraces, and sitting alongside the rushing Wos river you will find Capella Ubud. The luxury camp’s forest home offers a plethora of guided walks past ancient trees and breath-taking scenery for an unforgettable wellness journey. Capella Ubud’s proximity to local villages allows guests to fully immerse in local life and ancient Balinese tradition.

Capella Ubud’s shining star is intimate Asian barbeque restaurant Api Jiwa, diners can sit at the chef’s counter and watch as their journey through Balinese flavours is prepared on the open Robatayaki grill, using the best local produce. For a more relaxed setting, Mads Lange serves international dishes from its split-level tented dining room overlooking the forest. Of course, there is no pool without a pool bar, so The Mortar and Pestle bar is open throughout the day serving drinks and delectable snacks from a menu designed to reflect the harmony of Mother Nature’s ingredients using traditional methods.
